SPARK VIRGINIA is the Commonwealth’s premier early-stage energy innovation competition, showcasing founders and technologies shaping the future of energy, climate, and industrial decarbonization. Hosted by the Dominion Energy Innovation Center, SPARK has awarded more than $30,000 in non-dilutive funding since 2023 and returns in 2026 with $10,000 in prizes ($7,500 grand prize, $2,500 runner-up).
The competition is open to Virginia-based or Virginia-affiliated startups, university teams, and researchers developing scalable energy solutions, including grid-enhancing technologies, advanced storage, hydrogen and alternative fuels, industrial decarbonization, sensing and controls, and next-generation climate tech. Ideal applicants are early-stage teams with a clear problem statement, technical merit, and a credible path to commercialization in the next 12-36 months.
Finalists will pitch live at Energy Tech Virginia 2026, gaining visibility with investors, utilities, and industry leaders. There is no cost to apply, and previous applicants are encouraged to return.
